Today Vinnie, Amelia, Natysha-Rae and Sharna read a story about beavers. We watched a Youtube clip to learn about how beavers build their dams. We think beavers are very talented! Congratulations to the wonderful Kapa Haka and Wearable Arts participants who performed at Horncastle Arena last night - you made St Albans School very proud of you, We had awesome lessons at Te Wero today. After we arrived on the bus we took off our shoes and socks and began our warm up routine. Then we were organised into groups to move around 4 stations with our parent helpers. The instructors stayed at their station. At times we had to be brave to try new things. It felt wonderful when we learned something new. Thanks to the wonderful parents and instructors who helped to make our day such fun! A reminder that tomorrow (Tuesday) we are heading off to Te Wero Gymnastics.
Please ensure children have a big breakfast and come along to school ready for a great day out. They will need
Today lovely Mrs Norton shared a wonderful art activity with Team Tui. We started by looking at some hands that had Henna prints on them. We learned that henna is commonly used in Indian culture. Next we used our scrapbooks or whiteboards to have at trial run at designing our own henna hand design. When we were happy with our design we used a vivid to create our final art work. We tried to use thick and thin lines and to include patterns in our work. Today we made Fortune Tellers for our team maths. We had to carefully fold these. Then we learned how to play a game with them. Some of us had to do addition, others subtraction. We are pretty clever mathematicians these days. We are bringing our Fortune Tellers home to play with our family. Today we had the poetry competition finals in Home Base 17 and 18. Thanks very much to Ms Ashby and Mrs DeVries who shared their learning space with us. Mrs Dykstra and Whaea Brigit were our judges - and what a tricky job they had! Well done to Elias who won the year 2 competition, Evie who was placed second and Uike and Christopher who shared third place!
Today Mrs Norton helped us practice our place value. First we listened to a place value song and talked about what how many groups of hundreds, tens and ones are in different numbers. After this we had some fun number riddles to work out. When we were finished we tried sudoku. Thanks Mrs Norton!
