At language experience time in Team Tui with Miss Ward we had pirate fun!
Children knew so many facts abut pirates. We listened to a book on line - it was called How I Became A Pirate. The person reading the book had great accents - he really sounded like a pirate. He had to do these things to be a pirate
The next thing the children did was they learned to dance like a pirate! Miss Ward had a variety of activities for us to choose from... 1. Make a pirate hat and eye patch. 2. Make a pirate ship with 5 straws - you can cut them up. Your ship need to float and you can test it in the art bay. You could make a paper one too. 3. Water was outside so you can check which things float or sink - you need to predict if it will float or sink, fill out the sheet and then test the object. 4. Pirate sentences - you have to match the sentences up with each other. 5. Talk like a pirate! 6. Create your own treasure map

On Monday Mrs Pelham introduced us to the books Mrs Wishy Washy written by Joy Cowley. We read a few different stories and talked about the similarities in the books. Next we got to write our own poems about mud using describing words. This was fun!! Today Kody and Keegan read a book about Chimpanzees. The Little Chimp made his own bed in the trees for the first time. We watched this clip about how chimps make beds in trees. Today Harry F, Joey, Harry W, Zena, Archie, Harry W, Evie, Daisy and Lucas read a book about outdoor art activities. One of the activities was shadow art. We thought we would have a go ourselves. We used chalk and had turns at drawing each others shadow. We sometimes found that our own shadow got in the way.
Today at Language Experience with Miss Ward we looked at why bridges are so strong. We talked about trusses, suspension bridges, pillars, cables, towers and how a triangle is a very strong shape to use when building a bridge. Bridges are strong because of triangle shapes, what they are made of (the materials) and the clever engineers who design them. Miss Ward gave us 10 straws, sellotape and string and challenged us to make a strong bridge that would hold a cup with buttons in it. We worked in groups of 2 to 4 people. What made making the bridge hard? The sellotape was hard to stick at different angles. It was tricky to make the design match the actual bridge. Mrs Simmons cut the sellotape so we could use it quickly. Bridges with big bases worked best. The suspension bridges were strong. Triangle bridges were strong. We ran out of time and didn't finish our bridge or to test it. On Monday Mrs Pelham introduced us to our new topic for Term 4 'From garden to tabletop'. First we listened to the story The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle and then we got to make our own plant people. We planted chives seeds so that when they grow they will look like hair! Home Base 9 wrote instructions on how we made them so you can have a go at home yourself! Making Plant People By Evie Ryan You will need: A plastic cup Sticky labels A vivid Soil Seeds Water 1. First you draw a face on two sticky labels. The eyes on the first sticky label and the nose and mouth on the second sticky label. Use another sticky label to put your name on the back. 2. Next scoop some soil into the plastic cup. Make sure it fills half of the cup. 4. Put some seeds on the soil. 5. Put some more soil on the seeds. 6. Flatten the soil. 7. Put some water on the soil (make sure you don't put to much). We can wait to watch our plants grow!
Today Miles, Sam, Royden, Sharna, Eve and Vesper read the book called Mrs Spider's Beautiful Web. Sharna asked a great question and we did a google search to find the answer. Do you have any more spider questions?
This week Mrs Norton set us a fantastic maths challenge. We had to use multi link cubes create shapes that met three different criteria. It was lots of fun and tricker than we first thought it might be! |
