We have been writing letters to Santa and then using the app Adobe Voice to present them. We are having so much fun and the writing is amazing. I feel very proud of the children. Click here to see Rosie's great letter.

Over the last week we have been learning how to write reports.
We wrote a report about lambs and shared lots of great knowledge about lambs. We did some research about lambs by asking experts, using google and reading a story. When we had written our report we learned to use ThingLink which is a great app for us to share out learning with. First we picked a photo as our background then we added facts we know by either writing them or making a video about them. Check us out here by clicking on the pins (targets) or videos - you will know who created each ThingLink by seeing who is in the video clips - sorry, I got a bit muddled trying to name them all! Harry F's Mum was digging in the garden when she came across a war medal.
What a remarkable find! She did some research and was able to find out it was from 1913-1916. Check out more information here. As part of our topic we learned about pollination. Pollination is when the bees collect pollen from one plant and take it to the next. This means the flowers can create new seeds and we get to have new plants. We did an experiment to see how this works. First the children made a flower and a bee finger puppet. Next we added some twisties which acted as the pollen. The children were allowed to eat twisties from their own and other people's pottles. They were not allowed to lick their fingers but needed to touch each other's flowers as they landed to collect a twistie. This left pollen on each flower and was an excellent way of demonstrating the pollination process. Finally we completed an activity to explain our learning. Today we continued our tasting of delicious food we have made ourselves. This time we made our own hummus using
I was once again impressed that all children tasted the hummus and almost everyone came back for seconds, thirds and even fourths! It was delicious and so exciting to see the children enjoying cooking and eating this hummus. Yesterday I brought our three little kittens to school. The children have seen many photos and heard plenty of stories about these three lovely kittens since they were born five weeks ago. It was so much fun bringing them in for snuggles with everyone - the kittens and the children were all very good at taking care of each other! I was so happy to get an email from Miles's Mum today to say he had made vegetable soup with her for their tea on Saturday night. Great work Miles - I love that you were so inspired by your learning that you could cook tea for Mum! We have been talking about how we can give and receive feedback and how this can improve our learning. We watched this clip about Austin's Butterfly during our art lesson on Friday. We talked about how the children gave specific feedback that Austin used to improve his work. We talked about how feedback helps us to improve - and that people are not being mean when they give us ideas about how to improve our work. We also talked about our feedback needing to be honest but said in kind ways. We spent some time designing our fish for our Alexander Calder inspired artwork. We then gave feedback to our friends - we practised giving specific feedback in a kind way and also receiving feedback with a positive attitude. We then recrafted our artwork by using the feedback we received. When we felt happy with the final artwork we enlarged it using the photocopier to be ready to make our own mobiles next week. This term our art is inspired by Alexander Calder - a famous artist who invented mobiles. He created some wonderful art works and we are going to replicate his style. Check out this story about him and his artwork. |
